sanding/repainting job

has anyone sanded/repainted a topsheet on a snowboard?
im thinking of redoing my old k2 as a back up but the top sheet
is in horrible condition. the base and the edges are great though.

so im thinking of sanding down the top by maybe a mm or 2, repainting
it or painting something freehand with oil paint and clearing it with some
auto paint from a REAL paint shop.

pros/cons anyone?

Great idea, especially for a backup board.  I have never done this, but I do have some points to make on it.

1) Do very little sanding.  You want to limit sanding of the top sheet to as little as possible to protect the structural integrity of the board.  Some boards have the topsheet incorporated into the structure of the board (some capped designs) and some boards have a topsheet there for cosmetics and protective purposes.  You certainly do not want to sand into the fiberglass, just enough to get a primer coat to bond really well.

2) Of course use paints that are flexible and can endure extreme temperatures.

3) Protect the base of the board with extreme caution.  Getting paint on the base could ruin it.

Thanks for the advice, i didnt know about the topsheet incorporation so i had to take a look at
this particular board and its truly cosmetic. but sweet on the heads up because if it had been
part of the strength i might have seriously done some damage.

this is an old k2 dart, and its a wee bit thicker than todays boards so ill be ok with the sanding,
im only going as deep as the gashes from where other people have ran their board over it.

i was talking to a paint shop guy today about a flex agent that can stand freezing temps and
still have a decent amount of flex, so im pretty excited about this!

ill post pics of the progress :)
