Summer freeride snowboarding (Wichita, Kansas)
« on: March 20, 2008, 03:46:27 PM »
:?:Hi Fellow Boarders,

May I have your advice ?
I'll have one or two free weekends in June in Wichita, Kansas.
Can you recommend a ski-site (for Summer freeride snowboarding) that is:
1. Close to Wichita (in term of time it takes to get there)
2. Has good Summer freeriding.
3. Is not too expansive.
(above are in declining order of importance).

Thanks,
BR.

The best snowboard camps are in Mt Hood, Oregon and Whistler, British Columbia.  Both of which you would want to fly to from Kansas.  There are also camps in Girdwood, Alaska, New Zealand.  You may get lucky and find something going on at Arapahoe Basin, Colorado which may be driving distance from you.  They (and Whistler) would be the best for North American Freeriding in June.  I couldn't find anything on Camps at A-Basin, but you could contact them to see if they have anything going on in June.  They like to stay open through July if possible.  The camp at Mount Hood is really popular but focuses more on freestyle.

Now, if you want good freeriding and have the cash, head south to Chille to a place like Portillo.

Hi Frosty,
Thanks for the detailed answer.
A few years back I visited Mt. Hood during the Summer, and the amount of snow was pathetic: one could actually measure the runs in Meters
Wistler would be nice, but is too far - time-to-get-ther-wise (ditto NZ and South America  8))
I'll check Colorado: thanks for the pointer.
Happy trails,
BR.
