Hi. I've been snowboarding a few times and I think I'm a decent rider. I can carve and go down the slopes no problem. I'm currently trying to go off jumps but not quite good at that yet. So I think I'm maybe an intermediate rider? Well, On Nov 16-19, Ski Dazzle is coming to Los Angeles and I'm thinking of buying a board. Could you please help me pick out a board? Only real brand names I've heard of are Burton and K2. I'm thinking of buying a Burton snowboard. I want to buy a package with bindings and boots. I'm 20 years old, 6'2, 160 lbs. Shoes size is around 11-12. I don't really want to be going off half pipes and stuff. I read some guides to buying a snowboard and I think freeride matches me? Kind of a short notice for you to reply so sorry...hopefully you reply in time =) Thank you.

Oh one more thing. The other thing I'm confused about buying a snowboard is about your snowboard size calculator. I read guides and they said to buy a snowboard around the chin to nose level. So if I'm 6'2, thats 187.96cm. Around my nose and chin would be around 168-172 ish i estimate, but on the calculator it tells me to get a 161cm board. Could you clarify on that too please? Thank you.

Ok. Well, I got no replies (you must have been busy) but I went to Ski Dazzle and I bought a board package. It's a Salomon Pulse 2007 163cm. The bindings are Salomon Force and the boots are Salomon Symbio. Well, tell me if I bought a good board for me or not. Thank you.

Oh, no problem. Well, Big Bear resorts aren't even fully open. Snow Summit (one of the resorts in Big bear) opened on wed. I'm planning to go this sunday if i get the chance. I'll get a picture of my new setup as soon as possible. I had the bindings put in because I thought it would be complicated and he installed it at like 15, -1 or -3? i forget. And he installed it alittle back on the board (last 4 holes on the board for the bindings?) Then i realized how easy it was and i came home and did it myself after doing alittle research. I don't know much about bindings and stuff because I only rented all the time. So I heard that the best basic setup is 21 and 9. So I move the bindings back to the middle of the board and put the angles to 21 and 9. If you can tell me if thats a good setup to start with, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

I am an all-mountain rider and I like +20 and -5 for my angles. You might like somethng like that too. Since you are used to renting, I offer you this tip. Every tome before you go to the mountain, put a screwdriver to your bindings and make sure they are all tight. You would be amazed at how often they can come loose from the vibrations on the board.

Oh. So those degrees would be a duck stance right? I heard duck stance puts alot of stress on your back leg and knee? I'm not sure, just wondering. And for rentals, what degrees are most rentals at? I know almost every rental is Burton... well the ones I always got were burton. Alittle more information degrees of the bindings. Also, how do you get 20 and 5? My bindings go by intervals of 3? Yes, the binding algles I suggested are SLIGHTLY ducked, but it is not what I would consider duck. For example +20 and -20 would be closer to duck. having -3 to -5 angle on the back foot actually feels like straight across, especially from the perspective of the instep of the foot.

It might work for you, it might not. Most rentals will be something close to that. A lot of rentals (not all) will have a type of binding that can be adjusted on-the-fly, so no need to use any tools or anything.

I recommend getting rentals the night prior if possible. That way you can lay out the board on the floor and mock a setup and see how it feels. Looks for things like:

- Comfort
- Range of motion
- Support
- Integrity of equipment (everything tight and nothing broken)

Doing this seems like a lot, but it will really help you have a better time out on the mountain.

Hi. The riding was fun. When I had my angles at +21, +9, i realized that I didn't really like it. I did 2 runs from the top of the mountain to the bottom and I had trouble turning to the left (heel side?) from a regular stance. I could still carve decently but I had to put more effort and work into it. After that I changed my angles to +15, -3 and I seemed to like that better and rode the whole day on that angle. I saw it now and your angle that you told me to try was +20, -3. I swore it was +15 but now i remember me thinking that +20 wasn't an interval of 3 and asking that question. Well, if you recommend me to increase my angle on the front foot, ill try that next time, but +15, -3 seemed to work, but I'll try anything new to improve if thats what you recommend. Haha. Well, thats pretty much my experience yesterday ^.^
