New Board (not sure what size to choose)
« on: December 06, 2009, 02:54:40 PM »
I'm a beginner snowboarder and I've pretty much only been on it for 3 days. I want my own snowboard though and I'm not sure how big it should be

i'm 5 ft 5.5 inches and weigh 105 lbs. by "beginner" i mean i can make it down without hurting myself (on the bunny slopes XD), going full speed, and i'm probably going to go up to the top of the mountain this winter :). but i kind of fail at carving.

i just bought a 142 cm x games snowboard (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11493184&search=snowboard&Mo=7&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=snowboard&Ntt=snowboard&No=4&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1) but i'm not sure it'll work so i'm probably going to return it

anyways yea :D

I have never tried those boards you get at Costco.  They are not a name brand so I wouldn't put too much serious stock in them.  I guess the good thing about Costco is that you can return it any time.

As far as size, somewhere in the 140cm +/- 3 would be fine.  Have you tried the calculator yet?

OK, cool.  Also make sure you get the right WIDTH for you.   That is more important than length.  As for that specific board, I couldn't find the width spec anywhere for it.

Alright I just bought the siren oynx

I want to freestyle too but from the looks of it is seems as if it is a freeride board.

I weighed it and its 10 lbs (probably inaccurate). 144 cm :) any comments?

Is it the white one with the ribbon-like swirls on it?

Yeah, that was the one I was thinking of.  There doesnt seem to be much info available on that particular board, so I cannot really say much for it.  Anyone else have on info for this Siren Oynx board?
