Decent beginner's gear?
« on: January 05, 2011, 07:04:35 PM »
Is this decent gear for a beginner?:

Board- http://www.the-house.com/9860sapu10zz-salomon-snowboards.html?utm_source=commissionjunction&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_campaign=1644277&netid=cj

Bindings- http://www.the-house.com/rd1lx06wh10zz-ride-snowboard-bindings.html

Boots- http://www.the-house.com/wi2sm1010zz-world-industries-snowboard-boots.html

I'm not too sure about those boots so I'm also thinking about these:

The only thing that concerns me is that these come in 11.5 but not 11. I don't think the extra half inch would matter but I honestly don't know. Feel free to tell me if it's a decent (or not) beginner set up.

I like the board and bindings for sure.  I would go with the DC boots as you will be happier with their reputation for being durable and better performing than the cheapies.  Why get a boot then have to upgrade the very next season?  My 2cents.

I agree. I think that I will get the DC's and stuff tissue paper in them if it's a problem, which I doubt.

Instead of tissue paper, use an insole that is thicker (takes up more volume) and/or use thicker socks.  Those things work REALLY well.  (Don't double up socks though, just use thinner or thicker socks to get the best fit in your snowboard boots -- that's the key)

I can't update my post so I'll make another one :/. Is there any way I can select the color of the board I get? Or even know what color I'll get? I ask because in one picture it shows 2 color schemes but no way of choosing one. Or is one the top and one the bottom? If it is, how can I tell which scheme is which? I ask because I want my bindings to match the board.

I love "The-House.com". I think they have the most amazing customer service. When I ordered one of my boards at pre-season (full price), the guy I talked to physically walked out to the warehouse and grabbed my snowboard and put it in his office, and mailed it to me the next day.

Well at least he said he did. I remember it almost being sold out, and him telling me he would pick it up and put it away so no one would order it and it accidentally ship.

Great group of guys. They have 90% of my snowboarding business. The other is No school snowboard shop at Smugglers Notch, or Darkside shop in Stowe.

Wow, that is awesome!  All businesses should be more like that.

I agree. Even if it was just the assurance that my "high risk sell-out" snowboard was going to me, it made me feel like i had an inside friend. They have always been 100% upfront with me,
and even if what I want is sold out, they let me know, not keeping me guessing.
